Café Erzherzog Johann – A Grand Café Full of Elegance and Tradition

The Tradition-Café Erzherzog Johann is one of the few Grand Cafés in Graz where you can sit for hours to have business meetings, work on tasks with your electronic device or just enjoy the time in this elegant atmosphere.

When you look up, while sitting in the main room, you will see several floors above you full of plants, which hang over the balustrade.

The waiter is very friendly and polite and gives you the time you need for whatever you have come for to the Tradition-Café Erzherzog Johann. This Café as well as the whole Palais Hotel it is built in, is named after and devoted to Erzherzog Johann, the brother of the Austrian Emperor Kaiser Franz II., who is so present in Graz and Styria, as he was living in Graz and a town called Stainz in Southern Styria over large parts of his life and introduced many reforms to Graz and Styria, which made him popular in the area. Therefore here in this Grand Café you will see many references to the influential figure Erzherzog Johann.

The showcase features appealing cakes and tarts as well as sandwiches, and my Café Verlängerter, the coffee I had, was delicious.

This Grand Café is a perfect place to have a time-out or to work, but whatever you do, if you are into elegance, style, and reference to Erzherzog Johann, the brother of the Austrian Emperor Kaiser Franz II., this place is devoted to, the Grand Café most likely is the right place for you.

But see it for yourself:

And here is the famous slide show:

The Bottom Line: The Tradition-Café Erzherzog Johann is an elegant Grand Café within the Palais Hotel Erzherzog Johann, located next to the Main Square of Graz, in the Heart of Old Town Graz in Sackstraße 3.
